A Few Ways Counselling Can Help

Read Time: 5 minutes

Farmers have a tradition of being independent and not openly talking about problems or asking for support until things are resolved. At AgLife, we want to support farm families in their mental wellness. Talking to a counselor can help manage stress, deal with grief and loss, and assist with practical communication skills.

TOOLS YOU CAN USE

Here are some areas where counselling can help:

  • Managing Stress

If you are experiencing physical symptoms such as muscle pains, headaches, grinding teeth, poor sleep, upset stomach, and exhaustion, it may be a sign that you are storing your stress. Talking about problems and sharing negative emotions can help manage stress, strengthen the immune system, and reduce physical and emotional distress.
  • Loss and Grief

Farmers often experience losses, whether it’s the loss of crops, livestock, or loved ones. Counselling can help process shock, anger, pain, and other feelings associated with grief.
  • Relationship Challenges

Managing relationships with family members, farm employees, and others can be complex. Counseling can assist in building their communication skills and resolving conflicts in their family and work relationships.

  • Talking to a counselor can help manage stress and navigate the challenges of grief. Additionally, counselling can help improve communication and resolve conflicts in relationships. AgSafe has partnered with mental wellness practitioners to provide counseling services at no cost to B.C. farmers.
